2 receive management promotions at American

Two staff members received promotions at American Insurance on Jan. 1.

Heather Browning, a Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR), has been promoted to Commercial Lines Department Manager and agent Jeremy Van Houten has been promoted to Assistant Manager of the Moscow branch office.

"We are very pleased to have these two agents assume additional responsibilities to ensure our Agency continues our success in our 95th year of operation," said John B. Sullivan, president of American Insurance.

Heather Browning

Heather Browning started at the Agency in January 2008 working as a Commercial Lines (CL) Customer Service Representative helping business customers with policy changes, claims and quotations. She recently received her CISR Elite designation from the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research and is a licensed insurance agent in Idaho and Washington.

As CL Department Manager, Heather supervises three service employees and manages all areas of commercial insurance. She coordinates with dozens of insurance companies and works with our agents to quote and place business insurance policies for our clients including commercial liability, property, inland marine, crime, business auto, bonds and workers compensation.

Prior to her insurance career, she worked for 17 years as a police dispatch and emergency services operator between Latah County and Lewiston Police Departments agencies. Heather is a Moscow High school graduate who attended the University of Idaho, and enjoys being outdoors, camping and traveling. She has been married to Tom Browning for 27 years and has a son now attending Idaho State University.

Jeremy Van Houten

Jeremy Van Houten started at American Insurance in October 2013 as an insurance sales agent. Along with his sales duties, he is now the Assistant Manager of the Moscow branch office with administrative duties regarding staffing and operations. He also sells all lines of property-casualty insurance and is licensed in Idaho and Washington states. He has experience in every type of insurance coverage auto, home, farm, business, bonds and workers compensation.

Van Houten is a graduate of Moscow High school and the University of Idaho with a bachelor degree in Business Management and Human Resources. He loves sports and played high school football at MHS for four years. He is now a Chamber Ambassador for the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and recently bought a home in Moscow. For hobbies, he enjoys talking about sports, anything related to cars as well as outdoor activities and especially recreational dirt bike riding on his Kawasaki KX450F.

American Insurance is an independent agency established in 1922 and celebrating 95 years in business with offices in Lewiston and Moscow.
